Corporate Headshot Photography
So, you’re about to book a corporate portrait photography session, for you and your team at the office?
Great! There are a few things you should consider when booking with your photographer, to make sure you get the style of headshots that you want.
Not sure what you want? Or maybe you don’t know what your options are?.. When you book with Jeremy Veitch Photography, we will talk to you first about what style of photos you like. Maybe you want something clean and sharp to show your company’s professionalism, or maybe you are a creative office and you want something more relaxed that highlights individual personality.. Here are a few common ‘looks’ for headshots that can help you get started..
THE CLEAN & SIMPLE CORPORATE LOOK
It’s clean, It’s simple, and all about you. A clean white background, with great lighting is what most people probably think of when they think of ‘Headshots’. And let’s face it, it works!
This style is perfect for professional offices who want to convey a slick and clean style to introduce their staff through a website profile, LinkedIn page, proposals, and more. The clean white background can also make the image more versatile to use across different platforms, and it is easy to keep the rest of the team’s images consistent, even if they are not shot at the same time.
JVP can bring portable lighting equipment to achieve this look conveniently in your own offices, so no need to travel to a studio!
THE OFFICE ENVIRONMENT, OR ON LOCATION
A great way to keep your headshots super professional, and also add a fresh and modern look that is perfect for websites is to include some of your work environment into the background, or, take a walk outside to include the city environment, or even something natural and green.
Natural light and outdoor backgrounds can add a vibrant feel to your photos, great for a more relaxed and approachable image. Shooting in your actual workspace can provide context and add authenticity to your headshots, perfect for entrepreneurs and freelancers.
HEADSHOTS WITH PERSONALITY
When a client says to me, “we want photos that really show our personality!” I know that a slightly different approach is needed. Key to getting this right is to make people as comfortable as possible in front of the camera, and ultimately have fun during their shoot! It’s not always an easy task, so it can be fun to take a less structured approach.. Posing can be more candid, and not looking directly at the camera. Allow the staff to choose the outfit that they feel best in.
And, a little trick I like to use is to tell each person to bring a buddy with them while they are being photographed - someone who can chat to them, make them laugh, and help them relax!
This style of headshot photography is popular with creative businesses, and teams that want to show their customers or clients that they will be dealing with fun, real people who will be easy to work with.
So if this sounds like the kind of photography you want, it will be important to prep your team with what to expect. Sure, it will mostly be the photographer’s job to make sure the photos are great, but it will help to get the team a little excited. After all, It’s not every day that you have a professional portrait taken of you, so embrace it and make it fun :)
